Deekman refers to an incident that occurred during the European Cup of 1996. A black player of the Netherlands national team brought up “Kabel” referring to “cable” as in a connection between close friends. The media presented it in a negative way that had consequences for the black players in the team. Deekman is a technology and mixed media artist, he wants to raise awareness for the power and impact of media because this medium has become even more powerful since 1996.
