It was immediately clear during our first meeting what I, Maikel Deekman and Paula Megija Karklina had in common. Nature and fabric patterns from our own culture. She draws inspiration from Riga, Latvia and I from the Surinamese Maroon culture.

She told me how her grandfather could predict the weather the next day by looking at the sky the night before. It is fascinating to see how other cultures still have a connection with nature and the cultural layering of fabric patterns lies on top of it.
